Welcome to the Down Home Blues Club!
There is a blues jam session every Sunday starting at 5:00pm.
If you’re interested call Selby at 918-855-0978 for more information.
The D.C. Minner Museum is open Sunday and by appointment, too. (an appointment means if we are here, we welcome your visit!)
After tiring of constant life on the road, in 1988, the D.C. and Selby Minner returned to Rentiesville and converted Minner’s grandmother’s prohibition-era corn-whiskey hall, The Cozy Corner, into the after-hours club, The Down Home Blues Club. The club quickly became what it had been in the first half of the twentieth century, a favorite spot for after hours relaxing, socializing, dancing, and listening to blues, and rhythm and blues, played by D.C. and Selby.
Today, it still serves as a focal point of the blues and blues history. Keeping the legacy of the traditional blues club / juke joint alive, The Down Home Blues Club focuses on the music first, next, and last. If you can play the blues, wanna’ play the blues, love the blues, just like to listen to the blues or any combination of those, we welcome you to stop by.
The Down Homes Blues Club not only hosts the annual festival, but is home to the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame and Museum. It’s the place to learn about the history of the blues and the hundreds of musicians who have been honored by induction.
The Down Homes Blues Club events include the blues hall of fame inductions, The Mini Fest in the Spring and the Rentiesville Dusk til Dawn Blues Festival presenting 30 bands, kid friendly, and founded in 1991.

The Down-Homes Blues Club not only hosts the annual festival, but is home to the Oklahoma Blues Hall of Fame and Museum. It’s the place to learn about the history of the blues and the 100 musicians who have been honored by induction.
Club events include the blues hall of fame induction concert each spring, and periodic concerts and jam sessions.
The Down Home Blues Club was established in the 1930s as a speakeasy in Rentiesville, Oklahoma, an historic all-black town. It was rejuvenated in the 1980s by DC Minner, legendary bluesman, who grew up there and dedicated his life to bringing the music he loved back to his childhood home.
A well-known bluesman and session player, D.C. was inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame in 1999 . With his wife Selby Minner and their band Blues on the Move, DC expanded the place, and kept the juke joint rockin’ until his death in 2008. Today Selby Minner is keeping the music alive for the next generations.
A REVIEW FROM THE OK BLUES CLUB ABOUT 1994 – Origins of the band, a love story:
The group has struggled with not being commercially marketable, since they are a racially mixed couple. Not being ones to wait around too long for good fortune to strike, they have carved their own niche in the Blues world.
From booking tours themselves and opening their own night club, they went on to establish Oklahoma’s premier Blues roots fest, the Dusk ’til Dawn Blues Festival. Held every Labor Day weekend in Rentiesville, it features three or four world-class Blues acts and showcases the Oklahoma Blues tradition with over 30 bands! The Texas Road Recording label is their latest venture. They are on the Oklahoma State Arts Council, both as touring artists and artists in residence.
The pair opens the club through the summer months and does Blues in the schools, tours and recording in the winter. In February and March of 1994, the band toured Europe, including Belgium, Holland and England.
Check out this Blues master and his bass player – funky, ingratiating vocals – great guitar work – a Blues Sound of their own!

This year’s blues festival again brings in 200 performers from across Oklahoma and the US. D.C. Minner, in 6 Halls of Fame, is also an inductee of the Rhythm & Routes Oklahoma Music Trail. Visit the Rhythm & Routes website to learn more about the places in Oklahoma that inspired his career, listen to his music and browse an online collection of photos and videos. “The Oklahoma Film + Music Office (OF + MO) is thrilled for the continued success of the OBHOF” said OF + MO Deputy Director of Music Lindsey Flowers. “As an honoree on the Rhythm and Routes Oklahoma Music Trail, D.C. Minner has brought national attention to Oklahoma’s legendary blues music culture and this year’s Rentiesville celebrations will continue to honor his legacy.”
Selby Minner Blues on the Move
from our friends at the The Blues Festival Guide.com:
As the basis for American music, the rhythms and musical progressions of blues music has had a public following since the early 20th century. As time progressed, the sounds of blues music have been altered, expanded, and often renamed. The basis of rock ‘n roll, hip hop, rap, heavy metal, and jazz all have a genesis in blues music. To ensure the continued survival of an audience for blues music and expand the financial opportunities for blues and it’s life blood festivals The Blues Festival Guide is committed to the process of outreach and a search for methods to present blues to a wider public.
Blues Music… Sometimes sad, lonely and mournful, but in other cases fully energized and bursting with electric-guitar-fueled vigor, blues is one of the most powerful, influential and popular musical styles to have risen during the last few centuries.
The song structure is simple – much of classic blues is based around a three-chord, 12-bar progression that leaves room for boundless improvisation – and it serves as a foundation for much of today’s popular music.
Today it’s still being picked on the front porches of tar-paper shacks, but it’s just as frequently fired up loud and proud in front of a barroom (or for that matter stadium) crowd. In either case though, it remains a music that reflects hardship, trouble and strife, but also perseverance and strength of character – to know the blues is to be in touch with your true spirit and soul.
Notable artists include: B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Etta James, Buddy Guy, Delbert McClinton, Robert Johnson, Willie Dixon. Many are unknown…
